Amazon Fire HDX 8.9 has a global score of 67.9, which is a bit better than the Microsoft Surface 2's general score of 63.4. Amazon Fire HDX 8.9 comes with Android 4.4 OS, while Microsoft Surface 2 counts with Windows RT 8.1 OS. Amazon Fire HDX 8.9's construction is newer, way lighter and somewhat thinner than Microsoft Surface 2.
Amazon Fire HDX 8.9 has a way better looking display than Microsoft Surface 2, because although it has a little smaller screen, it also counts with a lot better pixel amount per inch in the screen and a better resolution of 1600 x 2560px. The Microsoft Surface 2 features as much memory for games and applications as the Amazon Fire HDX 8.9, both of them have the same 64 GB internal storage.
Amazon Fire HDX 8.9 features a bit better processing unit than Microsoft Surface 2. They have a 2 GB RAM memory and a Quad-Core processor. Amazon Fire HDX 8.9 takes better photos and videos than Microsoft Surface 2, and although they both have the same (Full HD) video resolution and the same video frame rates, the Amazon Fire HDX 8.9 also has a camera with a way higher 8 MP resolution.
The Microsoft Surface 2 has a battery performance that is very similar to the Amazon Fire HDX 8.9 one.
