Amazon Fire HDX 8.9 has a global score of 67.9, which is slightly better than the Microsoft Surface 3's general score of 66.3. Even when the Amazon Fire HDX 8.9 and Microsoft Surface 3 were released with only 6 months difference, the Amazon Fire HDX 8.9 is somewhat thinner and notably lighter. Amazon Fire HDX 8.9 counts with an incredibly better looking screen than Microsoft Surface 3, because although it has a little smaller display, it also counts with a better 1600 x 2560px resolution and a much higher count of pixels per screen inch.

The Microsoft Surface 3 features a very superior memory capacity for apps and games than Amazon Fire HDX 8.9, because it has 128 GB internal memory capacity. Amazon Fire HDX 8.9 has just a bit better performance than Microsoft Surface 3, although it has lesser RAM memory, they both have a Quad-Core processor.

The Amazon Fire HDX 8.9 has a bit better camera than Microsoft Surface 3. Both of them have the same video frame rate, a same resolution back-facing camera and the same (Full HD) video resolution. Microsoft Surface 3's battery lifetime is just as good as the Amazon Fire HDX 8.9 one.

Although Amazon Fire HDX 8.9 is a better device, it costs more than Microsoft Surface 3, and it doesn't have such a good relation between it's price and quality as Microsoft Surface 3. So if you need that extra specs and features, you can buy Amazon Fire HDX 8.9, otherwise you can save some money and buy the Microsoft Surface 3, resigning a couple features and specifications.
