The Amazon Fire HDX 8.9 is better than Galaxy Tab A 9.7, getting a overall score of 67.9 against 60.5. These devices come with Android OS (operating system), but Amazon Fire HDX 8.9 has older 4.4 version while Galaxy Tab A 9.7 has Android 7.1 Nougat version. Although Amazon Fire HDX 8.9 and Galaxy Tab A 9.7 were only released with a few months difference, Amazon Fire HDX 8.9's body is lighter but also just a bit thicker.

The Amazon Fire HDX 8.9 counts with a way better looking display than Galaxy Tab A 9.7, because although it has a quite smaller display, it also counts with a way better resolution of 1600 x 2560px and a way greater pixel density. The Amazon Fire HDX 8.9 has a much better camera than Samsung Galaxy Tab A 9.7, because it has a camera with a lot higher 8 mega pixels resolution and a lot better (Full HD) video definition. Amazon Fire HDX 8.9 features a better memory capacity for applications, games, photos and videos than Samsung Galaxy Tab A 9.7, because although it has no external SD slot, it also counts with 64 GB internal storage.

Galaxy Tab A 9.7 has a really longer battery performance than Amazon Fire HDX 8.9.

Although Amazon Fire HDX 8.9 is a better device, it costs a lot more money than the Galaxy Tab A 9.7, and it doesn't have such a good relation between it's price and quality as Galaxy Tab A 9.7. So if you need that extra specs and features, you can buy Amazon Fire HDX 8.9, else you can save a couple dollars and buy the Galaxy Tab A 9.7, giving up a couple features and specs.
