The Samsung Galaxy Tab S 8.4 has an overall score of 74.5, which is slightly better than Amazon Fire HDX 8.9's 67.9 overall score. The Samsung Galaxy Tab S 8.4 design is thinner and much lighter than the Amazon Fire HDX 8.9, although both were released only a couple months apart. Both tablets in our current comparison work with Android operating system, but the Samsung Galaxy Tab S 8.4 has a more recent 4.4.2 version while Amazon Fire HDX 8.9 has Android 4.4 version, so it provides some additional features and better performance.
Amazon Fire HDX 8.9 and Galaxy Tab S 8.4 have incredibly similar screens, because although the Galaxy Tab S 8.4 has a quite smaller display, and they both have the same 2560 x 1600px resolution, it also counts with a quite better count of pixels per inch in the display. The Galaxy Tab S 8.4 counts with a bit bigger storage for apps and games than Amazon Fire HDX 8.9, because although it has only 32 GB internal memory, it also counts with a slot for external memory cards that admits up to 128 GB.
Amazon Fire HDX 8.9 counts with a bit faster processing unit than Galaxy Tab S 8.4, although it has a lower number of cores (although they are faster) and lesser RAM memory. The Galaxy Tab S 8.4 takes clearer videos and photos than Amazon Fire HDX 8.9. Both have the same video frame rate, a back camera with an 8 MP and the same 1920x1080 video quality.
Galaxy Tab S 8.4 has a really longer battery lifetime than Amazon Fire HDX 8.9.
