The Microsoft Surface Pro 3 is slightly better than the Google Nexus 7 (2013), getting a general score of 72.2 against 70.8. The Microsoft Surface Pro 3 design is newer than the Google Nexus 7 (2013)'s, but it's heavier and just a little bit thicker. The Microsoft Surface Pro 3 has Windows 8.1 Pro operating system, and Google Nexus 7 (2013) works with Android 5.0 operating system.

Google Nexus 7 (2013) counts with a much better display than Microsoft Surface Pro 3, because although it has a bit lower 1200 x 1920px resolution and a much smaller display, it also counts with a better pixels number per inch in the display. The Microsoft Surface Pro 3 counts with a way bigger memory capacity for applications, games, photos and videos than Google Nexus 7 (2013), because it has more internal storage capacity.

Google Nexus 7 (2013) has a little faster processing unit than Microsoft Surface Pro 3, because although it has lesser RAM, it also counts with more cpu cores and an additional graphics co-processor. The Google Nexus 7 (2013) shoots much clearer pictures and videos than Microsoft Surface Pro 3. Both have the same video frame rates, the same resolution back facing camera and the same 1920x1080 (Full HD) video definition.

The Google Nexus 7 (2013) features a much longer battery performance than Microsoft Surface Pro 3.

Although Microsoft Surface Pro 3 is a better device, it is a lot more expensive than Google Nexus 7 (2013), and it doesn't have such a good relation between it's price and quality as Google Nexus 7 (2013). So if you need that extra features and specs, you can buy Microsoft Surface Pro 3, else you can save a couple dollars and get the Google Nexus 7 (2013), letting go some specs and features.
