Google Nexus 9 is a a little thinner and much lighter tablet than the Microsoft Surface 3, even when they were released with only 7 months difference. The Google Nexus 9 has a much more vibrant display than Microsoft Surface 3, because although it has a little bit smaller display, it also counts with a bit higher resolution of 2048 x 1536 pixels and a higher number of pixels per inch of screen.
