Galaxy Tab A 9.7 is a newer tablet, and it's also lighter and noticeably thinner than Microsoft Surface RT. The Galaxy Tab A 9.7 works with Android 7.1 Nougat OS, and Microsoft Surface RT works with Windows RT OS.
