The Galaxy Tab A 10.1 (2016) is a a lot newer tablet than Amazon Kindle Fire HDX 8.9, although it's a lot heavier and just a bit thicker. Both of these tablets have Android OS (Operating System), but the Galaxy Tab A 10.1 (2016) has a newer 8.1 Oreo version while Amazon Kindle Fire HDX 8.9 has Android 4.2.2 version, so it gives a couple additional features.
