Although the Amazon Fire HDX 8.9 and Galaxy Tab Active were released with only 2 months difference, the Amazon Fire HDX 8.9 is thinner and a little lighter. Both of these tablets come with the same Android 4.4 operating system, so you shouldn't see any differences in that aspect.
Amazon Fire HDX 8.9 counts with a much better screen than Galaxy Tab Active, because it has a lot better pixel quantity per display inch, a much higher 1600 x 2560 resolution and a little bit bigger screen. The Amazon Fire HDX 8.9 features a bit better CPU than Galaxy Tab Active, because although it has doesn't have an extra graphics processing unit, and they both have 4 processing cores, the Amazon Fire HDX 8.9 also counts with more RAM.
Amazon Fire HDX 8.9 shoots a bit better pictures and videos than Galaxy Tab Active, because it has a way better video resolution and a camera in the back with way more megapixels.
