The Samsung Galaxy Tab S 8.4 has a global score of 74.5, which is slightly better than Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 10.1's 67.8 global score. The Samsung Galaxy Tab S 8.4 body is thinner and much lighter than the Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 10.1, even though both were only released 2 months apart. Both of these tablets work with the same Android 4.4.2 OS (Operating System), so you shouldn't notice any difference regarding OS features.
Samsung Galaxy Tab S 8.4 has an incredibly better display than Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 10.1, because although it has a quite smaller screen, it also counts with a lot better resolution of 2560 x 1600 and much more pixels per inch of screen. Samsung Galaxy Tab S 8.4 features a way bigger storage for games and applications than Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 10.1, because it has 16 GB more internal memory and an external SD slot that supports up to 128 GB.
Galaxy Tab S 8.4 counts with a little better processing power than Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 10.1, because although it has doesn't have an additional graphics co-processor, it also counts with a higher amount of RAM memory and a higher number of cores. The Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 10.1 has a very superior battery lifetime than Galaxy Tab S 8.4, because it has 6800mAh of battery capacity instead of 4900mAh.
The Galaxy Tab S 8.4 captures much clearer pictures and videos than Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 10.1, because it has a way higher 1920x1080 (Full HD) video quality and a way more MP back facing camera.
The Samsung Galaxy Tab S 8.4 costs more money than Galaxy Tab 4 10.1, but you can get a better tablet for that few extra dollars.
