Comparison review
The Xperia Tablet Z is slightly better than the Amazon Fire HDX 8.9, getting a 68.5 score against 67.9. Xperia Tablet Z's construction is a little bit thinner than the Amazon Fire HDX 8.9, but it is extremely heavier and was released about a year before. These tablets come with Android OS (Operating System), but the Xperia Tablet Z has the newer 4.4.4 version and Amazon Fire HDX 8.9 has Android 4.4, so it gives you a couple nice extra features.
The Amazon Fire HDX 8.9 has a bit better CPU than Sony Xperia Tablet Z, although it has doesn't have an additional graphics processing unit, they both have 4 processing cores and the same RAM amount. Amazon Fire HDX 8.9 features a brighter screen than Xperia Tablet Z, because although it has a quite smaller display, it also counts with a better resolution of 1600 x 2560 and a way higher display pixel density.
The Amazon Fire HDX 8.9 has a slightly better storage capacity for apps and games than Sony Xperia Tablet Z, because although it has no SD memory slot, it also counts with 64 GB internal memory capacity. Sony Xperia Tablet Z features a way better battery lifetime than Amazon Fire HDX 8.9. The Amazon Fire HDX 8.9 features just a bit better camera than Sony Xperia Tablet Z, although it has a back camera with less mega pixels and a lower 1920x1080 (Full HD) video resolution.
Although Sony Xperia Tablet Z is a better device, it costs a lot more than the Amazon Fire HDX 8.9, and it doesn't have such a good price and quality relation as the Amazon Fire HDX 8.9. So if you need that extra specs, you can buy the Sony Xperia Tablet Z, but if you don't you can save a couple dollars and get the Amazon Fire HDX 8.9, letting go some features and specs.
