Both of these tablets include Android operating system, but Xperia Z2 Tablet has the older 4.4.4 version while Galaxy Tab A (2016) has Android 5.1 Lollipop. The Xperia Z2 Tablet is a way older and noticeably heavier tablet than the Galaxy Tab A (2016), but Sony managed to build it notably thinner anyway.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab A (2016) takes just a bit better photographs and videos than Xperia Z2 Tablet, although it has a way lower (HD) video quality and a back facing camera with lot less megapixels resolution. Sony Xperia Z2 Tablet has a way better battery life than Galaxy Tab A (2016), because it has a 6000mAh battery size instead of 4000mAh.
The Xperia Z2 Tablet costs a lot more than the Samsung Galaxy Tab A (2016), but you can get a better tablet for that few more dollars.
