The iPhone 12 is slightly better than the Galaxy S5, with a global score of 88.7 against 80.8. IPhone 12 counts with iOS 15.x operating system, and Galaxy S5 has Android 4.4.2 operating system. The iPhone 12 is a way newer and just a little thinner device than Galaxy S5, but it's also heavier. Galaxy S5 counts with a little sharper display than iPhone 12, because although it has a little bit lower resolution of 1920 x 1080 and a little bit smaller display, it also counts with a better screen density.
The Samsung Galaxy S5 features slightly more storage to install games and applications than iPhone 12, because although it has less internal memory capacity, it also counts with a slot for SD memory cards that admits a maximum of 128 GB. The iPhone 12 counts with a better processing unit than Galaxy S5, because although it has doesn't have an additional graphics processing unit, it also counts with more cpu cores, a 64-bits processing unit and a larger amount of RAM.
IPhone 12 and Galaxy S5 have incredibly similar cameras, because although the Galaxy S5 has lower video frame rate and a way tinier diafragm aperture which is not recommended for taking photos and/or video in low light situations, and they both have the same 3840x2160 (4K) video resolution, it also counts with a camera in the back with a lot higher 16 megapixels resolution.

Although iPhone 12 is a better device, it is way more expensive than the Galaxy S5, and it doesn't have such a good quality/price relation as the Galaxy S5. If you prefer to save a few dollars, you can get Galaxy S5, giving up a couple features, but you will get the most out of your budget.
