Both devices we are comparing here use Android OS (operating system), but the Galaxy Note8 has newer 9.0 Pie version and Google Pixel 3a XL has Android 11 version. The Galaxy Note8 construction is older, heavier and just a little thicker than the Google Pixel 3a XL.

The Samsung Galaxy Note8 features a bit better display than Google Pixel 3a XL, because it has a higher display density, a little larger display and a better 1440 x 2960 pixels resolution. The Samsung Galaxy Note8 features a much better storage for games and applications than Google Pixel 3a XL, and although they both have the same 64 GB internal storage capacity, the Samsung Galaxy Note8 also has a SD card slot that admits up to 256 GB.

The Galaxy Note8 counts with a little better processing power than Google Pixel 3a XL, and although they both have 8 cpu cores, the Galaxy Note8 also has 2 GB more RAM memory. Galaxy Note8 features a camera that's just as good as Google Pixel 3a XL's camera, because although the Galaxy Note8 has a lower resolution camera in the back and a lower 3840x2160 (4K) video resolution, and they both have a 0.39 inches sensor, it also counts with a bigger aperture for better low light captures and video.

Google Pixel 3a XL counts with just a little bit longer battery life than Galaxy Note8, because it has 3700mAh of battery capacity against 3300mAh.

Although Samsung Galaxy Note8 is a better device, it costs a lot more than the Google Pixel 3a XL, and it doesn't have such a good price and quality relation as Google Pixel 3a XL. If you prefer to save a few dollars, you can get Google Pixel 3a XL, giving up a few features and specifications, but you will get the most with your savings.
