Comparison review
The Galaxy S5 has a general score of 80.8, which is better than HTC One (M8)'s 71.9 overall score. Both of these phones come with Android OS, but Galaxy S5 has 4.4.2 version and HTC One (M8) has Android 5.0 version. Galaxy S5's design is somewhat thinner and just a little lighter than the HTC One (M8), although both were released only 3 months apart.
Samsung Galaxy S5 counts with a little sharper screen than HTC One (M8), and although they both have the same resolution of 1920 x 1080, the Samsung Galaxy S5 also has a little bigger display and a higher pixel density. Samsung Galaxy S5 counts with just a little better processing power than HTC One (M8), and although they both have a Quad-Core processor, the Samsung Galaxy S5 also has a greater amount of RAM memory and a much better GPU running at 500 MHz.
The Galaxy S5 has a better camera than HTC One (M8), because although it has a smaller diafragm aperture which is not good for low-light photos and videos, it also counts with a way higher 3840x2160 (4K) video quality, a bigger back-facing camera sensor taking higher quality pictures and videos and a back facing camera with a way higher resolution.
The HTC One (M8) and the Samsung Galaxy S5 count with quite similar memory to install games and applications, both of them have the same 32 GB internal memory and a SD card slot that admits up to 128 GB. The Samsung Galaxy S5 features a bit superior battery performance than HTC One (M8), because it has 2800mAh of battery capacity against 2600mAh.
Galaxy S5 is more expensive than the HTC One (M8), but it's still a convenient choice, because you can get a lot more for that extra money.
