Sony Xperia 1 is much better than the HTC One (M8), with an 82.6 score against 71.9. Sony Xperia 1's construction is newer and thinner, but also heavier than the HTC One (M8). Sony Xperia 1 features a bit more vivid screen than HTC One (M8), because it has more pixels per inch in the screen, a much higher 1644 x 3840 pixels resolution and a bigger display.

The Sony Xperia 1 features a little bit better performance than HTC One (M8), because although it has doesn't have an extra graphics processor, it also counts with more RAM and more processing cores. Xperia 1 features a much greater memory to store more games and applications than HTC One (M8), because it has 128 GB internal storage capacity and a SD memory slot that holds up to 512 GB.

Sony Xperia 1 has superior battery life than HTC One (M8), because it has a 28% greater battery capacity. Sony Xperia 1 captures much clearer photographs and videos than HTC One (M8), because it has a lot better video resolution, a bigger sensor capturing higher quality videos and pictures, a bigger diafragm aperture and a camera in the back with a much higher 12 mega pixels resolution.

Although Sony Xperia 1 is a better device, it costs a lot more money than HTC One (M8), and it doesn't have such a good quality/price relation as HTC One (M8). So if you want that extra specs and features, you can buy the Sony Xperia 1, but if you don't you can save some money and buy the HTC One (M8), letting go some features and specs.
