The Huawei Mate X2 is slightly better than Samsung Galaxy Note8, having an 89.1 score against 83. These phones include Android operating system, but the Huawei Mate X2 has an older 10 version while Samsung Galaxy Note8 has Android 9.0 Pie. The Huawei Mate X2 construction is noticeably newer and a little thinner, but also way heavier than Samsung Galaxy Note8.
Samsung Galaxy Note8 counts with a little sharper screen than Huawei Mate X2, because although it has a way smaller display and a bit worse resolution of 1440 x 2960 pixels, it also counts with a better pixels number per screen inch. Huawei Mate X2 features a much bigger storage capacity to install applications and games or saving photos and videos than Galaxy Note8, because although it has no external memory slot, it also counts with 256 GB internal storage capacity.

The Huawei Mate X2 features a better camera than Galaxy Note8, because although it has a tinier diafragm aperture which is not favorable for capturing images and video in low-light situations, and they both have the same (4K) video quality and the same 30 fps video frame rates, the Huawei Mate X2 also counts with a much higher resolution back facing camera.
The Huawei Mate X2 features improved battery lifetime than Galaxy Note8, because it has 4500mAh of battery capacity.
Although Huawei Mate X2 is a better device, it costs a lot more money than Galaxy Note8, and it doesn't have such a good quality/price relation as the Galaxy Note8. If you are trying to save some dollars, you can get the Galaxy Note8, letting go a few features and specifications, but you'll get the most with your money.
