Comparison review
The Huawei Mate 9 Pro has an overall score of 78.7, which is a bit better than the Huawei P20 Lite's 75.4 overall score. Huawei Mate 9 Pro is an older, heavier and a little thicker cellphone than the Huawei P20 Lite. These devices use the same Android 8.0 Oreo OS (Operating System), so you shouldn't perceive any difference in that aspect.
Huawei Mate 9 Pro features a bit better processor than Huawei P20 Lite, and although they both have 8 cpu cores, the Huawei Mate 9 Pro also has a greater amount of RAM. The Huawei Mate 9 Pro has a little more vivid screen than Huawei P20 Lite, because although it has a little bit smaller display, it also counts with a quite better count of pixels in each inch in the screen and a better 1440 x 2560px resolution.
The Huawei P20 Lite features a little bit better storage capacity for applications and games than Huawei Mate 9 Pro, because although it has just 64 GB internal storage, it also counts with a SD card slot that holds a maximum of 256 GB. The Huawei Mate 9 Pro counts with longer battery duration than Huawei P20 Lite, because it has a 4000mAh battery capacity.
Huawei Mate 9 Pro has a bit better camera than Huawei P20 Lite, because although it has a back-facing camera with much less mega pixels, and they both have a F2.2 diafragm aperture, the Huawei Mate 9 Pro also counts with a much higher 3840x2160 (4K) video resolution.
Although Huawei Mate 9 Pro is a better device, it costs a lot more money than the Huawei P20 Lite, and it doesn't have such a good relation between it's price and quality as Huawei P20 Lite. If you are trying to save a few dollars, you can buy the Huawei P20 Lite, and give up a few specs and features, but you'll get the most out of your money.
