Xperia 1 is much better than Moto G4 Plus, getting a overall score of 82.6 against 72.1. Even though the Xperia 1 is somewhat heavier than Moto G4 Plus, it's somewhat thinner and also a lot newer. Xperia 1 features a much more vibrant screen than Motorola Moto G4 Plus, because it has a larger screen, a lot higher pixels amount per inch in the display and a much better 1644 x 3840 resolution.
Sony Xperia 1 features a superior hardware performance than Moto G4 Plus, and although they both have the same number of cores, the Sony Xperia 1 also has 2 GB more RAM. Sony Xperia 1 shoots just a bit better videos and photos than Moto G4 Plus, because although it has a much less mega-pixels resolution camera in the back, it also counts with a way better (4K) video definition and a bigger diafragm aperture.
Sony Xperia 1 counts with a very superior memory to store more games and applications than Motorola Moto G4 Plus, because it has a SD memory card expansion slot that supports up to 512 GB and 128 GB internal storage capacity. Sony Xperia 1 features just a little bit longer battery performance than Moto G4 Plus, because it has a 3330mAh battery size.
Although Sony Xperia 1 is a better device, it costs a lot more money than the Moto G4 Plus, and it doesn't have such a good relation between it's price and quality as the Moto G4 Plus. So if you need that extra features, you can buy the Sony Xperia 1, otherwise you can save a couple dollars and buy the Moto G4 Plus, giving up some features and specs.
