Even though the iPhone 8 Plus is newer than the Motorola Moto Z, it's heavier and a lot thicker. The Apple iPhone 8 Plus counts with a faster CPU than Motorola Moto Z, because although it has a smaller amount of RAM memory, it also counts with a greater number of cores and a 64-bits CPU.
Moto Z and iPhone 8 Plus feature very similar screens, and although the iPhone 8 Plus has a lot worse 1080 x 1920 resolution and a little inferior amount of pixels per screen inch, they both have a display of the same size. The Apple iPhone 8 Plus has a bit bigger memory for applications, games, photos and videos than Moto Z, because although it has no SD extension slot, it also counts with 256 GB internal memory.
The iPhone 8 Plus features a little longer battery performance than Moto Z, because it has a 3 percent bigger battery size. The iPhone 8 Plus features just a bit better camera than Motorola Moto Z, although it has a back-facing camera with less MP and a worse (4K) video definition, they both have a F1.8 aperture.
Although iPhone 8 Plus is a better device, it costs a lot more money than Moto Z, and it doesn't have such a good relation between it's price and quality as the Moto Z. If you prefer to save some money, you can buy Moto Z, letting go a few specs and features, but you will get the most out of your savings.
