Xperia 5 II is much better than Moto Z2 Play, with an 87.2 score against 77.4. Even though Xperia 5 II is way newer than the Moto Z2 Play, it is extremely thicker and somewhat heavier. Sony Xperia 5 II has just a bit better hardware performance than Moto Z2 Play, and although they both have 8 cores, the Sony Xperia 5 II also has a greater amount of RAM.
The Xperia 5 II features a bit sharper display than Moto Z2 Play, because it has a quite better 1080 x 2520 resolution, a bit larger display and a little more pixels per inch of display. The Sony Xperia 5 II has a bit more storage capacity to store more apps and games than Moto Z2 Play, because although it has a SD extension slot that admits up to 1000 GB against 1,95 TB, it also counts with 128 GB internal memory.
Xperia 5 II has better battery life than Moto Z2 Play, because it has 4000mAh of battery capacity. Sony Xperia 5 II takes much better photos and videos than Motorola Moto Z2 Play, and although they both have a same resolution back facing camera, the same video resolution and the same aperture, the Sony Xperia 5 II also has better video frame rates.
Although Xperia 5 II is a better device, it is a lot more expensive than the Moto Z2 Play, and it doesn't have such a good relation between it's price and quality as the Moto Z2 Play. So if you need that extra specs, you can buy Xperia 5 II, but if you don't you can save some money and get the Moto Z2 Play, resigning a couple features and specifications.
