Both of these devices have Android OS (operating system), but the LG V30S ThinQ has a newer 8.0 Oreo version while Galaxy A40 has Android 11 version, providing lots of additional features and optimized performance. The LG V30S ThinQ body is a bit thinner than Galaxy A40, but it is heavier and was released only 13 months before.
