Both of these phones include Android operating system, but Microsoft Surface Duo has 10 version while Samsung Galaxy Alpha has Android 4.4.4. The Microsoft Surface Duo construction is noticeably thinner but a lot heavier than Samsung Galaxy Alpha.

Microsoft Surface Duo has a bit superior processing unit than Galaxy Alpha, because although it has doesn't have an extra GPU, it also counts with a greater number of cores (and faster) and 4 GB more RAM. The Galaxy Alpha has a bit more vivid display than Microsoft Surface Duo, although it has a much lower resolution of 1280 x 720, a just a bit lower screen pixel density and a way smaller display.

The Samsung Galaxy Alpha takes a little bit better photos and videos than Microsoft Surface Duo, because although it has lower 30 fps video frame rate and a smaller diafragm aperture, and they both have the same (4K) video definition, the Samsung Galaxy Alpha also counts with a higher resolution camera.

The Microsoft Surface Duo has a superior memory capacity to store more apps and games than Galaxy Alpha, because it has more internal storage capacity. Microsoft Surface Duo has a very superior battery life than Galaxy Alpha, because it has a 3577mAh battery size instead of 1860mAh.

Although Microsoft Surface Duo is a better device, it costs a lot more than Galaxy Alpha, and it doesn't have such a good relation between it's price and quality as Galaxy Alpha. If you are trying to save some money, you can buy Galaxy Alpha, giving up some specs and features, but you'll get the most out of your money.
