Huawei Mate X has a score of 89.4, which is just a bit better than Galaxy Note8's overall score of 83. The Huawei Mate X construction is notably newer, but incredibly heavier and much thicker than the Galaxy Note8. Both of these phones have the same Android 9.0 Pie OS, so both of them should provide you very similar OS features.
Huawei Mate X features just a bit better hardware performance than Galaxy Note8, and although they both have a Octa-Core CPU, the Huawei Mate X also has more RAM memory. Samsung Galaxy Note8 features a little bit better screen than Huawei Mate X, because although it has a way smaller screen and a little lower 1440 x 2960 resolution, it also counts with a better screen density.
The Galaxy Note8 captures slightly better photos and videos than Huawei Mate X, because although it has a lot tinier sensor shooting way worse quality photos and a back-facing camera with a much worse resolution, it also counts with a larger aperture to take better photography and videos in poorly lited environments.
The Huawei Mate X has much more storage to store more apps and games than Galaxy Note8, because although it has no slot for an SD memory card, it also counts with 512 GB internal memory. The Huawei Mate X counts with greater battery duration than Galaxy Note8, because it has a 4500mAh battery size.
Although Huawei Mate X is a better device, it is a lot more expensive than Galaxy Note8, and it doesn't have such a good price and quality relation as Galaxy Note8. If you prefer to save a few dollars, you can buy the Galaxy Note8, letting go some specs and features, but you'll get the most out of your budget.
