Sony Xperia 1 has a general score of 82.6, which is slightly better than Galaxy S8 Active's overall score of 81.9. Sony Xperia 1's design is newer, somewhat thinner and somewhat lighter than the Galaxy S8 Active. Sony Xperia 1 counts with a slightly better looking screen than Galaxy S8 Active, because it has a higher 1644 x 3840 resolution, a bit bigger screen and a little bit more pixels per screen inch.
Sony Xperia 1 features a bit better CPU than Galaxy S8 Active, and although they both have 8 processing cores, the Sony Xperia 1 also has a larger amount of RAM. Sony Xperia 1 counts with a way bigger memory for apps and games than Galaxy S8 Active, because it has a slot for an SD memory card that holds a maximum of 512 GB and 64 GB more internal storage.
The Galaxy S8 Active has superior battery lifetime than Xperia 1, because it has a 20% bigger battery size. The Sony Xperia 1's camera is just as good as Galaxy S8 Active's camera, because although the Sony Xperia 1 has lower video frame rate and a tinier sensor shooting lower quality pictures and videos, and they both have the same 3840x2160 (4K) video definition and a same resolution back-facing camera, it also counts with a larger diafragm aperture to take better low light images and videos.
Although Xperia 1 is a better device, it costs a lot more money than the Samsung Galaxy S8 Active, and it doesn't have such a good relation between it's price and quality as Samsung Galaxy S8 Active. So if you need that extra features and specs, you can buy the Xperia 1, else you can save some money and buy the Samsung Galaxy S8 Active, resigning a couple specs and features.
