The Galaxy XCover 5 is a bit better than the Galaxy A5 (2017), getting a global score of 78.1 against 75.8. The Galaxy XCover 5 is a notably newer device than Galaxy A5 (2017), but it's thicker and a little bit heavier. Samsung Galaxy A5 (2017) counts with a little more vivid display than Galaxy XCover 5, because although it has a little smaller screen, it also counts with a higher screen pixels density and a higher resolution of 1080 x 1920.
Samsung Galaxy XCover 5 features much more storage capacity for games and applications than Galaxy A5 (2017), because it has 64 GB internal memory capacity and a SD memory card expansion slot that admits up to 1 TB. The Galaxy XCover 5 has a bit superior processor than Samsung Galaxy A5 (2017), and although they both have the same number of cores, the Galaxy XCover 5 also has 1 GB more RAM.
The Galaxy A5 (2017)'s battery life is just as good as Galaxy XCover 5's battery performance. The Samsung Galaxy A5 (2017) captures a bit better photographs and videos than Galaxy XCover 5, although it has a smaller camera aperture which is not good for shooting photos and video in poorly lited situations, they both have the same video resolution, the same video frame rate and a 16 megapixels resolution back facing camera.
