Comparison review

Xperia 1 is a bit better than Galaxy S8, with an 82.6 score against 81.7. Xperia 1's construction is noticeably newer, but heavier and just a little thicker than Galaxy S8. The Xperia 1 counts with a bit more vivid display than Samsung Galaxy S8, because it has a quite larger screen, a higher resolution of 1644 x 3840 pixels and a quite better number of pixels in each inch in the display.

Sony Xperia 1 features just a little better hardware performance than Samsung Galaxy S8, and although they both have the same number of cores, the Sony Xperia 1 also has a higher amount of RAM memory. Sony Xperia 1 has a much better storage capacity to install applications and games or saving photos and videos than Samsung Galaxy S8, because it has a slot for an external memory card that supports a maximum of 512 GB and 128 GB internal memory.

The Samsung Galaxy S8 and Xperia 1 both count with really similar cameras, because although the Samsung Galaxy S8 has a tinier camera aperture which is not so good for low-light photography, and they both have a back facing camera with a 12 mega pixels resolution and the same 3840x2160 video quality, it also counts with better 30 fps video frame rate and a larger camera sensor.

Xperia 1 counts with a bit better battery duration than Galaxy S8, because it has an 11 percent bigger battery size.

Although Xperia 1 is a better device, it is way more expensive than Samsung Galaxy S8, and it doesn't have such a good price and quality relation as Samsung Galaxy S8. So if you want that extra specs, you can buy the Xperia 1, else you can save some dollars and buy the Samsung Galaxy S8, resigning a couple features and specifications.
