The Xperia 5 II body is newer and just a bit lighter than the Xiaomi Mi 9's, although it is just a bit thicker. The Xiaomi Mi 9 features a bit better screen than Sony Xperia 5 II, because although it has a bit lower 1080 x 2340 resolution and a just a little lower pixel density, it also counts with a bit larger screen.
Sony Xperia 5 II features a much greater memory for applications, games, photos and videos than Xiaomi Mi 9, and although they both have exactly the same 128 GB internal storage, the Sony Xperia 5 II also has a SD memory card expansion slot that allows up to 1000 GB. The Xiaomi Mi 9 counts with a processing unit that's very similar to Xperia 5 II's processor, and although the Xiaomi Mi 9 has a lower amount of RAM memory, they both have the same number of cores.
Sony Xperia 5 II features improved battery lifetime than Xiaomi Mi 9, because it has a 21% larger battery size. The Xiaomi Mi 9 shoots much clearer videos and photos than Xperia 5 II, because although it has a smaller sensor shooting lower quality images and videos, a smaller aperture which is not so good for low-light captures and videos and worse video frame rates, and they both have the same 3840x2160 (4K) video resolution, the Xiaomi Mi 9 also counts with a much higher resolution back facing camera.
