Huawei Mate 9 Pro has a score of 78.7, which is a little bit better than the Xperia XZ's 73.5 overall score. Even though the Huawei Mate 9 Pro and Xperia XZ were only released with a few months difference, the Huawei Mate 9 Pro design is just a bit thinner but just a little heavier. Huawei Mate 9 Pro has a little sharper display than Sony Xperia XZ, because it has a little bit bigger screen, a higher count of pixels per inch in the screen and a higher 1440 x 2560 pixels resolution.
The Huawei Mate 9 Pro counts with more memory for games and applications than Sony Xperia XZ, because although it has no external SD slot, it also counts with 128 GB internal memory. Huawei Mate 9 Pro features just a bit better processing power than Xperia XZ, because it has more RAM memory and a greater number of cores (and they are faster).
Huawei Mate 9 Pro counts with a much better battery lifetime than Sony Xperia XZ, because it has a 4000mAh battery size. The Sony Xperia XZ features a little bit better camera than Huawei Mate 9 Pro, and although they both have the same 30 frames per second video frame rates and the same 3840x2160 video resolution, the Sony Xperia XZ also has a larger aperture to take better images and video in poorly lited situations, a way bigger camera sensor shooting much better quality photographs and videos and a camera in the back with way more mega pixels.
Although Huawei Mate 9 Pro is a better device, it is a lot more expensive than Sony Xperia XZ, and it doesn't have such a good price and quality relation as the Sony Xperia XZ. If you are trying to save some money, you can get Sony Xperia XZ, and give up a few features and specifications, but you'll get the most with your budget.
