Both of these phones come with Android operating system, but the Motorola edge has older 10 version while Xperia Z1 has Android 4.4.4. Motorola edge is a incredibly newer phone than Xperia Z1, but it is just a bit thicker and heavier.

Motorola edge features a bit superior CPU than Sony Xperia Z1, because although it has doesn't have a graphics co-processor, it also counts with a greater amount of RAM and a greater number of cores. Xperia Z1 features a better looking display than Motorola edge, because although it has a lot smaller screen and a little bit worse resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels, it also counts with a little better screen density.

The Motorola edge is a lot more expensive than Xperia Z1, but you can get a much better phone for that few extra dollars.
