The Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite takes a little bit better photos and videos than Xiaomi Mi Max 2, and although they both have the same video frame rates, the same (4K) video quality and a 12 mega-pixels camera, the Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite also has a larger aperture to capture better photography and video in poorly lited environments and a bigger sensor.
