The Xiaomi Mi 8 has a little sharper screen than Xiaomi Redmi Note 4X, because it has a bit higher resolution of 1080 x 2248, a quite greater pixels number in each display inch and a bit larger display. Xiaomi Mi 8 features a little bit better hardware performance than Xiaomi Redmi Note 4X, and although they both have 8 cpu cores, the Xiaomi Mi 8 also has more RAM memory.
