Both tablets in this comparison review come with Android OS (Operating System), but the Samsung Galaxy Tab E 8.0 has a more recent 5.1 Lollipop version while Amazon Fire HD 8 has Android 5.0 Lollipop. Although Samsung Galaxy Tab E 8.0 is a better portable tablet than Amazon Fire HD 8, we must tell that it's also a thicker and somewhat heavier portable tablet.
