Sony Tablet S has an overall score of 57.5, which is slightly better than the Amazon Fire HD 8's 54.1 overall score. These devices use Android OS (operating system), but Sony Tablet S has the previous 4.0 version while Amazon Fire HD 8 has Android 5.0 Lollipop version. Although the Sony Tablet S is a better portable tablet than the Amazon Fire HD 8, it must be noted that it's also extremely older, extremely heavier and extremely thicker.

The Sony Tablet S has a little bit better screen than Amazon Fire HD 8, because although it has a little less pixels per inch of display, and they both have an equal 800 x 1280 resolution, the Sony Tablet S also counts with a larger display. The Sony Tablet S features a slightly better storage capacity for games and applications than Amazon Fire HD 8, because although it has an external memory slot that allows a maximum of 32 GB against 128 GB, it also counts with 16 GB more internal memory.

The Amazon Fire HD 8 has a bit better hardware performance than Sony Tablet S, and although they both have 1 GB of RAM memory, the Amazon Fire HD 8 also has a higher number of cores (and faster). The Sony Tablet S shoots greater videos and photos than Amazon Fire HD 8. They have the same resolution camera in the back, the same video frame rate and the same 1280x720 (HD) video resolution.

Sony Tablet S features a very superior battery duration than Amazon Fire HD 8.

Although Sony Tablet S is a better device, it is a lot more expensive than the Amazon Fire HD 8, and it doesn't have such a good relation between it's price and quality as the Amazon Fire HD 8. So if you want that extra features and specs, you can buy Sony Tablet S, but if you don't you can save some dollars and buy the Amazon Fire HD 8, resigning some specifications.
