The Galaxy Tab Active has a general score of 67, which is better than the Google Nexus 7's global score of 59.3. Both devices in this review include Android operating system, but Galaxy Tab Active has older 4.4 version and Google Nexus 7 has Android 5.1. Even though Galaxy Tab Active is heavier than the Google Nexus 7, it's a bit thinner and also way newer.
The Google Nexus 7 features a little bit better display than Galaxy Tab Active, because although it has a little smaller display, and they both have an equal 800 x 1280 pixels resolution, the Google Nexus 7 also counts with a little higher pixels number in each inch in the screen. Samsung Galaxy Tab Active features a slightly better storage capacity to install applications and games than Google Nexus 7, because although it has less internal memory, it also counts with a slot for an external memory card that holds up to 64 GB.
The Google Nexus 7 has a bit more powerful CPU than Galaxy Tab Active, although it has a lower amount of RAM and a weaker 416 MHz GPU, they both have a Quad-Core processing unit. The Samsung Galaxy Tab Active features a way better camera than Google Nexus 7. Galaxy Tab Active has just a bit longer battery lifetime than Google Nexus 7, because it has 4450mAh of battery capacity instead of 4325mAh.
Although Galaxy Tab Active is a better device, it costs a lot more than the Google Nexus 7, and it doesn't have such a good relation between it's price and quality as the Google Nexus 7. If you are trying to save some dollars, you can get the Google Nexus 7, letting go a couple features and specs, but you'll get the most with your savings.
