IPad mini 3 is slightly better than the Google Nexus 9, getting a 77.5 score against 74.5. Even when the iPad mini 3 and Google Nexus 9 were only released 0 months apart, the iPad mini 3 is just a little thinner and a lot lighter. IPad mini 3 comes with iOS 8.x OS, and Google Nexus 9 has Android 5.0 OS.
The iPad mini 3 has a bit more vivid screen than Google Nexus 9, because although it has a little smaller screen, and they both have exactly the same 1536 x 2048px resolution, the iPad mini 3 also counts with a quite better pixels density. IPad mini 3 has a much better memory capacity for games and applications than Google Nexus 9, because it has 128 GB internal memory.
Google Nexus 9 counts with a bit better hardware performance than Apple iPad mini 3, because although it has doesn't have a graphics processing unit, and they both have a Dual-Core processing unit and a 64 bits processing unit, the Google Nexus 9 also counts with a higher amount of RAM. Apple iPad mini 3 features just a bit better camera than Google Nexus 9, although it has a way lower resolution back facing camera and a lower 1920x1080 video resolution, they both have the same diafragm aperture.

Although Apple iPad mini 3 is a better device, it costs a lot more than the Google Nexus 9, and it doesn't have such a good price and quality relation as the Google Nexus 9. So if you need that extra specs and features, you can buy the Apple iPad mini 3, else you can save a couple dollars and get the Google Nexus 9, giving up a couple features and specs.
