The iPhone XS Max is just a bit better than Galaxy S8 Active, getting an 84.5 score against 81.9. IPhone XS Max's design weights the same than Galaxy S8 Active, but it is way thinner. Apple iPhone XS Max counts with a superior processing unit than Galaxy S8 Active, because although it has a lower number of cores , and they both have the same RAM amount, the Apple iPhone XS Max also counts with a 64 bits processor.
Galaxy S8 Active features a display that is just as good as the Apple iPhone XS Max one, because although the Galaxy S8 Active has a quite smaller display, it also counts with a quite better 1440 x 2960px resolution and a just a bit better pixel count in each inch in the display. Samsung Galaxy S8 Active has a way bigger storage capacity to install applications and games or saving photos and videos than iPhone XS Max, and although they both have equal 64 GB internal memory, the Samsung Galaxy S8 Active also has a SD memory card expansion slot that supports a maximum of 256 GB.
IPhone XS Max captures a little bit better photos and videos than Samsung Galaxy S8 Active, because although it has a smaller aperture which is not recommended for shooting photos and videos in poorly lited situations, and they both have the same sensor size, a same resolution back facing camera and the same (4K) video quality, the iPhone XS Max also counts with better video frame rate.
