Xperia 1 is a bit better than the Google Nexus 5, getting a overall score of 82.6 against 76. Even though Xperia 1 is noticeably heavier than Google Nexus 5, it's a little bit thinner and noticeably newer. Sony Xperia 1 has a bit superior processor than Google Nexus 5, because although it has doesn't have an additional graphics processor, it also counts with a higher number of cores and 4 GB more RAM.

The Xperia 1 features a bit more vivid screen than Google Nexus 5, because it has a lot better 1644 x 3840 resolution, a better amount of pixels per screen inch and a larger display. The Xperia 1 counts with a better camera than Google Nexus 5, because it has a much better resolution camera in the back, a lot bigger aperture to take better low light photography and video, a much higher 3840x2160 (4K) video resolution and a bigger sensor which offers a higher photo and video quality.

The Sony Xperia 1 has a much greater memory to install applications and games or saving photos and videos than Google Nexus 5, because it has an external memory slot that allows up to 512 GB and 128 GB internal memory capacity. The Xperia 1 has a much longer battery performance than Google Nexus 5, because it has a 45 percent greater battery size.

If you prefer to save a few dollars, you can get Google Nexus 5, letting go some specs and features, but you'll get the most with your money.
