The Google Nexus 6P is just a bit better than Google Pixel 3a XL, with a general score of 80.3 against 78.9. Google Nexus 6P is a notably older and a little bit heavier phone than the Google Pixel 3a XL, but Google was able to build it a little thinner anyway. Although Google Nexus 6P is a better device, it is way more expensive than Google Pixel 3a XL, and it doesn't have such a good relation between it's price and quality as the Google Pixel 3a XL. If you prefer to save some dollars, you can buy the Google Pixel 3a XL, and give up a few specs and features, but you will get the most out of your budget.
