Huawei Mate 9 Pro is slightly better than the Huawei P20, getting a overall score of 78.7 against 78.1. Huawei Mate 9 Pro is a a little bit heavier phone than Huawei P20, but they are 0.3inches thick. Both of these devices include Android OS (operating system), but the Huawei Mate 9 Pro has 8.0 Oreo version while Huawei P20 has Android 9.0 Pie version.
The Huawei Mate 9 Pro has a bit faster processing unit than Huawei P20, and although they both have a Octa-Core processing unit, the Huawei Mate 9 Pro also has 2 GB more RAM. The Huawei Mate 9 Pro has a little bit better looking screen than Huawei P20, because although it has a quite smaller screen, it also counts with a just a little more pixels per inch of screen and a higher 1440 x 2560px resolution.
The Huawei P20 shoots a little bit better videos and photos than Huawei Mate 9 Pro, and although they both have a back camera with a 12 mega-pixels, the same 3840x2160 (4K) video resolution and the same video frame rate, the Huawei P20 also has a lot larger sensor which gives a way better image and video quality and a bigger aperture.
The Huawei P20's memory capacity for apps and games is just as good as the Huawei Mate 9 Pro one, they have exactly the same internal memory. Huawei Mate 9 Pro counts with superior battery lifetime than Huawei P20, because it has an 18% bigger battery size.
Although Huawei Mate 9 Pro is a better device, it is way more expensive than the Huawei P20, and it doesn't have such a good quality/price relation as the Huawei P20. If you are trying to save some dollars, you can get Huawei P20, letting go some specs and features, but you will get the most with your savings.
