Sony Xperia 5 has a global score of 81, which is slightly better than the Huawei Mate 9 Pro's global score of 78.7. Although the Sony Xperia 5 is a bit thicker than Huawei Mate 9 Pro, it's a little lighter and noticeably newer. Xperia 5 has just a bit better performance than Huawei Mate 9 Pro. Both of them have the same RAM memory amount and the same number of cores.
The Huawei Mate 9 Pro features a bit sharper display than Sony Xperia 5, because although it has a quite smaller display, it also counts with a slightly higher 1440 x 2560px resolution and a quite greater screen pixels density. The Xperia 5 has a much greater memory capacity for applications and games than Huawei Mate 9 Pro, and although they both have exactly the same 128 GB internal memory capacity, the Xperia 5 also has a SD card slot that holds a maximum of 512 GB.
Huawei Mate 9 Pro has greater battery lifetime than Xperia 5, because it has 4000mAh of battery capacity against 3140mAh. Sony Xperia 5 counts with just a bit better camera than Huawei Mate 9 Pro, and although they both have the same resolution back camera, the same 3840x2160 video quality and the same 30 fps video frame rate, the Sony Xperia 5 also has a lot larger aperture for better photography and videos in low-light situations and a bigger sensor capturing more light and vivid colors.
The Xperia 5 is a bit more expensive than the Huawei Mate 9 Pro, but it's still a good choice, because you can get a lot more for that extra money.
