Both of these devices work with Android operating system, but the Motorola Edge 40 Pro has 13 version while Galaxy A8 Star has Android 9.0 Pie version. Although Motorola Edge 40 Pro is way newer than Galaxy A8 Star, it is just a bit heavier and somewhat thicker.

Motorola Edge 40 Pro features a bit sharper screen than Galaxy A8 Star, because it has a just a bit more pixels per inch in the screen, a slightly better 1080 x 2400 resolution and a little bigger screen.
