The Sony Xperia 1 is better than Moto Z Play, getting a global score of 82.6 against 74.4. The Sony Xperia 1 design is extremely newer, but somewhat thicker and just a bit heavier than Moto Z Play. Xperia 1 has a more vivid screen than Motorola Moto Z Play, because it has a lot better 1644 x 3840 pixels resolution, a much better display pixels density and a larger screen.

Xperia 1 features more storage capacity for apps and games than Motorola Moto Z Play, because although it has a SD memory card expansion slot that supports 1,45 TB smaller, it also counts with 96 GB more internal memory capacity. Sony Xperia 1 counts with just a little better processing power than Moto Z Play, and although they both have a Octa-Core CPU, the Sony Xperia 1 also has a larger amount of RAM memory.

Xperia 1 features a slightly better camera than Motorola Moto Z Play, because although it has a back camera with much less megapixels resolution and a lower 3840x2160 video quality, it also counts with a bigger camera aperture to take better photos and videos in low-light environments. The Moto Z Play features just a bit better battery lifetime than Xperia 1, because it has a 3510mAh battery capacity.

Although Xperia 1 is a better device, it costs a lot more than the Moto Z Play, and it doesn't have such a good relation between it's price and quality as Moto Z Play. If you prefer to save a few dollars, you can get Moto Z Play, and give up a couple features and specs, but you will get the most out of your budget.
