Comparison review

The Xperia 1 III has a score of 93.3, which is way better than the Moto Z Play's 74.4 score. Both of these devices work with Android OS, but Xperia 1 III has the previous 11 version and Moto Z Play has Android 8.0 Oreo. Even though Xperia 1 III is way newer than Moto Z Play, it's somewhat heavier and somewhat thicker.

Xperia 1 III features a little bit better performance than Moto Z Play, and although they both have a Octa-Core processor, the Xperia 1 III also has more RAM. The Xperia 1 III counts with a brighter display than Moto Z Play, because it has a larger screen, a much higher resolution of 1644 x 3840px and a much higher pixels count per inch of screen.

Xperia 1 III captures better pictures and videos than Moto Z Play, because although it has a lower (4K) video quality and a lot less megapixels resolution camera, it also counts with a bigger diafragm aperture to capture better images in low-light situations. The Xperia 1 III features a much better memory for games and applications than Motorola Moto Z Play, because although it has an external memory slot that supports a maximum of 1 TB against 1,95 TB, it also counts with more internal memory.

The Xperia 1 III features greater battery performance than Motorola Moto Z Play, because it has a 4500mAh battery capacity instead of 3510mAh.

Although Sony Xperia 1 III is a better device, it is a lot more expensive than Motorola Moto Z Play, and it doesn't have such a good quality/price relation as the Motorola Moto Z Play. So if you want that extra features, you can buy Sony Xperia 1 III, but if you don't you can save a couple dollars and get the Motorola Moto Z Play, giving up a couple specifications.
