Comparison review

The Xperia XZ1 has a global score of 78.3, which is a bit better than the Moto Z's 74.5 global score. The Xperia XZ1 body is newer than the Moto Z's, but it is somewhat heavier and much thicker. Motorola Moto Z features a bit sharper display than Sony Xperia XZ1, because it has a higher resolution of 1440 x 2560 pixels, a little larger screen and a better screen pixel density.

Sony Xperia XZ1 counts with more storage to install games and applications than Moto Z, and although they both have a SD memory card expansion slot that supports up to 1,95 TB, the Sony Xperia XZ1 also has 64 GB internal memory. Sony Xperia XZ1 features just a little better hardware performance than Moto Z, and although they both have 4 GB of RAM memory, the Sony Xperia XZ1 also has a higher number of cores (and faster).

The Sony Xperia XZ1 has just a bit longer battery duration than Motorola Moto Z, because it has a 2700mAh battery size. Xperia XZ1 captures clearer photos and videos than Moto Z, because although it has a tinier aperture which is not so good for capturing images and videos in poorly lited environments, and they both have the same 3840x2160 video quality and the same video frame rates, the Xperia XZ1 also counts with a much more mega pixels back-facing camera.

Although Sony Xperia XZ1 is a better device, it is way more expensive than Motorola Moto Z, and it doesn't have such a good relation between it's price and quality as the Motorola Moto Z. If you prefer to save some money, you can buy the Motorola Moto Z, letting go a few features and specifications, but you'll get the most with your savings.
