Samsung Galaxy A8 Star is slightly better than the Galaxy A40, having a global score of 82.1 against 79.6. Although Samsung Galaxy A8 Star and Galaxy A40 were only released 8 months apart, the Samsung Galaxy A8 Star design is noticeably heavier but also a bit thinner. Both phones in this review have Android OS, but the Samsung Galaxy A8 Star has a newer 9.0 Pie version while Galaxy A40 has Android 11.

Samsung Galaxy A8 Star counts with a bit more powerful processor than Samsung Galaxy A40, and although they both have 8 processing cores, the Samsung Galaxy A8 Star also has more RAM. The Samsung Galaxy A40 features a little sharper display than Galaxy A8 Star, because although it has a little bit smaller display, it also counts with a little bit greater pixels density and a slightly higher resolution of 1080 x 2340px.

Galaxy A8 Star captures clearer videos and photos than Galaxy A40, and although they both have a same size sensor, a camera with a 16 megapixels and the same aperture, the Galaxy A8 Star also has a lot better (4K) video quality. The Samsung Galaxy A40 counts with a bit more memory to install games and applications than Samsung Galaxy A8 Star, and although they both have equal internal memory capacity, the Samsung Galaxy A40 also has a slot for an external memory card that supports up to 512 GB.

Galaxy A8 Star counts with improved battery lifetime than Galaxy A40, because it has a 19% greater battery size.
