The Xperia XZ1 has a global score of 78.3, which is slightly better than Samsung Galaxy J7 (2017)'s 73.5 general score. Xperia XZ1's design is lighter and a little bit thinner than the Samsung Galaxy J7 (2017), although both were released with only a couple months difference. Sony Xperia XZ1 counts with a little sharper screen than Samsung Galaxy J7 (2017), because although it has a bit smaller display, and they both have an equal resolution of 1080 x 1920px, the Sony Xperia XZ1 also counts with a little bit more pixels per inch in the display.
Xperia XZ1 features a bit better hardware performance than Samsung Galaxy J7 (2017), and although they both have the same number of cores, the Xperia XZ1 also has a greater amount of RAM. The Samsung Galaxy J7 (2017) has a much longer battery lifetime than Xperia XZ1, because it has a 3600mAh battery size against 2700mAh. The Sony Xperia XZ1 shoots much better pictures and videos than Galaxy J7 (2017), because although it has a smaller aperture which is not so good for shooting pictures in low light environments, it also counts with a back camera with a much better 19 megapixels resolution and a lot better video resolution.
