IPhone XS Max has a score of 84.5, which is a little bit better than Samsung Galaxy S9's 83.3 global score. The iPhone XS Max design is noticeably heavier but a little thinner than Samsung Galaxy S9, and both were only released with a couple months difference. Samsung Galaxy S9 and Apple iPhone XS Max count with extremely similar displays, because although the Apple iPhone XS Max has a bit worse 1242 x 2688 resolution and a little lower display pixel density, it also counts with a bit bigger screen.
The iPhone XS Max has a bit faster processing unit than Galaxy S9, because although it has 2 less and slower CPU cores, and they both have the same RAM memory amount, the iPhone XS Max also counts with a 64-bit processing unit. The Samsung Galaxy S9 has a little bit better camera than Apple iPhone XS Max, and although they both have a 12 MP back camera, a same size back-facing camera sensor, the same 60 frames per second video frame rates and the same 3840x2160 video definition, the Samsung Galaxy S9 also has a larger aperture to take better low-light photography.
Galaxy S9 has a much bigger memory for games and applications than iPhone XS Max, and although they both have exactly the same internal storage, the Galaxy S9 also has a SD extension slot that admits up to 400 GB. IPhone XS Max counts with a bit longer battery performance than Galaxy S9, because it has a 3179mAh battery capacity instead of 3000mAh.
Although Apple iPhone XS Max is a better device, it is way more expensive than the Samsung Galaxy S9, and it doesn't have such a good quality/price relation as Samsung Galaxy S9. So if you want that extra specs and features, you can buy the Apple iPhone XS Max, otherwise you can save a couple dollars and buy the Samsung Galaxy S9, letting go some features and specifications.
