Galaxy M31 is a little bit better than the Xperia 1, getting a general score of 86.5 against 82.6. Although the Galaxy M31 is newer than the Xperia 1, it is just a little heavier and a bit thicker. Xperia 1 features a better screen than Galaxy M31, because although it has less brightness, it also counts with a way better resolution of 1644 x 3840, a much better pixel density and a little bit larger screen.
The Xperia 1 features a little better hardware performance than Galaxy M31. They have the same number of cores and a 6 GB RAM memory.
