The Sony Xperia 5 is just a bit better than the Xperia Z5 Premium, with an 81 score against 79.8. The Sony Xperia 5 construction is notably newer and just a bit lighter, but a bit thicker than Xperia Z5 Premium. Sony Xperia 5 has a bit better hardware performance than Xperia Z5 Premium, because although it has doesn't have an additional graphics processing unit, and they both have a Octa-Core processing unit, the Sony Xperia 5 also counts with a greater amount of RAM.

The Sony Xperia Z5 Premium has a much more vibrant screen than Sony Xperia 5, because although it has a quite smaller display, it also counts with a way better resolution of 3840 x 2160px and a way greater pixel density. Sony Xperia Z5 Premium counts with just a bit better camera than Xperia 5, because although it has a smaller diafragm aperture, and they both have the same video frame rates and the same 3840x2160 video resolution, the Sony Xperia Z5 Premium also counts with a back facing camera with a lot better resolution and a larger sensor providing a better image quality.

Xperia Z5 Premium counts with just a little bit longer battery lifetime than Xperia 5, because it has 3430mAh of battery capacity against 3140mAh.

Although Xperia 5 is a better device, it costs a lot more money than the Xperia Z5 Premium, and it doesn't have such a good price and quality relation as Xperia Z5 Premium. So if you want that extra features, you can buy the Xperia 5, otherwise you can save a couple dollars and buy the Xperia Z5 Premium, giving up a couple features and specs.
